The Taylor Hicks Community

Coming together in Chicago...

You wouldn't think...
that a national Broadway touring musical and a blue-eyed soul singer's worlds would collide and be the perfect blend for a frigid place like Chicago. That's exactly what's happening as Taylor Hicks launches his new music in the middle of his starring run in Grease, in Chicago where the snow promises to stick around.

And Chicago loves both. The media have welcomed Grease and Taylor Hicks with rave reviews. Taylor spoke to Dean Richards on WGN Radio Sunday morning about Grease, his new music and Chicago.

He said that his new album focuses on the song writing which he had time to do. "...from a songwriting aspect [it] started last January...I had time to be able to allow myself to write and to acquire what I thought were great songs.” He says the music crosses genres.

“I wanted the common thread of my record to be my voice and I felt like I could touch on some different areas of music that maybe had not been previously heard from me.”

Dean observed of Taylor’s Teen Angel performance..."You were having a ball...” and Taylor responded, "I love it." He said he has the “utmost respect for Broadway and the theater in general. “I have had fun with it” and “...never thought in a million years that I would be the Teen Angel. This is a brand new path... the acting...the start of the path...given the right roles I think I could bring them to life.”

Taylor remembered listening to the great Chicago blues artist, Buddy Guy when he was 15 years old. Then 15 years later, he was sharing the stage with the legendary entertainer...

“That feeling is hard to describe but there is definite respect there for me and for legendary blues artists ...like Buddy Guy." When asked if he might make an impromptu visit to Buddy Guy's, Taylor said he was planning on doing it, "Come snow or shine."

Taylor played Chicago's House of Blues where Keb Mo joined him on stage during his 2007 tour.

The love between Chicago and Grease continues through January 18...come snow or shine! Tickets are on sale now at venues, ticketmaster and ~~ taylorhicks.com
