Track review: Taylor's "What's Right Is Right"
"'What’s Right Is Right' features laid back jazz elements that can easily coexist with Hicks’ soulful vocals and create a subdued mood. The single is a horse of a different color in that it retains a catchy chorus despite the fact that it is defined by its bluesy cartilage. The lyrics are simple yet comforting coming (“When you cry I’m cryin’ / when you laugh I’m laughin’”) from Hicks, as he provides a steady structure to lean on through difficult times. ...The independent scene seems to fit Taylor Hicks just right." "The common thread is my voice...
Taylor Hicks sat down with Northern Kentucky Magazine while in Cincinnati on the national Grease tour. He was asked about his new album, The Distance. "I wanted to take the listener on a journey through songs and reflect on styles of music that I love…and so, with that--co-writing ventures...with different styles of music…gospel… I think the common thread is the voice."

When he was asked where home was, it was a poetic Taylor who talked about the road he is on. “I’ve been on the road for about three years now…it’s been a blast. It’s like driving up to work and never coming back home. It happens that fast...with the right vision and the right dedication to your art...and what you do and what you think your sole purpose is, …to entertain, it doesn’t matter where it takes you. I was talking to Samuel L. Jackson...he asked me where I was from. ‘I’m from Alabama--I’m a long way from home’ ... and he looked at me and he said, ‘We all are.’ I never will forget that. I really do believe if you are true at what you do, you let it take you.”(The Northern Kentucky Magazine)
