Whomp at the Warfield
"Whomp at the Warfield," the long-awaited first DVD by Taylor Hicks, will be released February 17, and is available now for pre-order online at Amazon and Target. It comes out only seven days after Taylor’s new CD drops on music stands.
"Whomp at the Warfield" is a live concert DVD produced in San Francisco at the historic theatre near Market Street. Taylor Hicks performed there May 9, 2007, on the western leg of his Modern Whomp Solo Tour which wrapped up in Seattle a few days later.
In signature style, Taylor delivered an eclectic setlist in a whomped-up performance of his own music and covers of soul and rock classics. From “Gonna Move” to “Naked in the Jungle” Whomp brought down the Warfield and had fun doing it. “You gotta love San Francisco,” Taylor declared as exuberant fans tossed gifts onto the stage. The fun continued with Taylor “funkin’” it up on “Medicated Goo.”

Taylor and Frankie deal on Grease
Taylor Hicks has a similar deal to appear in Grease as former Teen Angel, Frankie Avalon. When Taylor goes on the road starring in the National Tour production, he will end the show as himself singing the single from his new album. Frankie Avalon had a similar arrangement when he appeared in Grease in the 1970s. Grease opens in Providence RI December 2.

GREASE MAY PLAY BIRMINGHAM!
Taylor Hicks made a quick stop in Jasper, AL recently and talked about his career and the future. He told the Mountain Eagle that he expects the National Tour of Grease, which he kicks off December 2, “to make a stop in Birmingham during 2009. A date hasn’t been set yet, but there is a lot of talk about it coming to Birmingham,” Hicks said. “I feel pretty confident that it will be scheduled.”
In the musical, Hicks plays Teen Angel and sings “Beauty School Dropout.” He said he will also be cross-promoting his new album during the tour and will sing a single from the album after each performance. Hicks said he would have never imagined starring on Broadway.
“This is the first time I’ve done anything like this,” Hicks said. “I think I did well during our stint on Broadway. The Teen Angel character isn’t a real stretch for me, because it fits my personality.” (The Mountain Eagle, Jasper, AL)
