Good years...

A few days ago fans remembered Pearl River—the venue for the last concert on the 2007 Taylor Hicks Solo Tour. It marked the end of a killer schedule. From his opening in Jacksonville FL in February, to Pearl River MS in November, Taylor traveled to 98 different cities and performed in 111 concerts. He traveled to all parts of the country, much of it on his own luxury tour bus. It was a good year.

Fans also looked back at 2008 which began with the America’s Music Award being presented to Taylor by the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Then came the announcement that Taylor Hicks would open on Broadway as Teen Angel in Grease. He packed the house every night. Critics credited him with bringing in an additional $150,000 in box office receipts every week. In more news, Taylor would be joining the National Tour of Grease for Spring, 2009, and be performing the single release from his new album on the Grease stage! It's been another good year.

Taylor Hicks returned home from France recently after preproduction work for his new album. In an important phase of creating the music that we enjoy, preproduction can vary tremendously in its scope and elements. It is where the artist and producer actually finalize the vision for the record—the tone or mood and the sound they are going for. They settle on a track list and the musicians are chosen. They rehearse and "lay down" some of the music tracks in pre-production. In fact, depending on whether they are doing a "jam" type recording, or the type of recording that almost all do now, pre-production may actually record every piece of the song.

Today, it is rare for the musicians and the vocalists to even be in the studio recording at the same time. They lay down tracks from all the different musical elements. Then the vocals are laid down. All can be done in pre-production and then they are mixed and mastered. They will lay down more tracks than will actually make it to the album, because they won't really know how they sound until the final production, so there are always stand-by tracks.(evancol/TTHC)   "I can't wait for you all to hear it," Taylor blogged to fans.
