     Artists for Haiti

“We are the World”
Twenty-five years after "We Are the World" was originally recorded by a mega star chorus for African famine relief, it will be re-recorded this week to benefit Haiti.

Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian, "We Are the World" was released in 1985 to benefit African famine relief. It featured vocals from powerhouses like Jackson, Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Bob Dylan and Ray Charles. The song became the fastest-selling American pop single in history, and was named the biggest selling single of all time.

The legendary musicians, Jones and Richie, are pushing artists who will be in Los Angeles for Grammy weekend to stay in the city till Monday, Feb. 1 for a massive sing-along at the Nokia Theater for the presentation which reportedly will be released on Friday.

Taylor urges support of Haitian Relief
Just one day after a devastating earthquate hit the nation of Haiti, a message on Taylor's MySpace urges us to take heed of the Haitian disaster and help:    "Wednesday, January 13, 2010
Haiti Earthquake Disaster - Relief Effort - PLEASE SUPPORT!

"Local Birmingham, AL parish, Saint Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church, is collecting monetary donations. As you can imagine, the local clinics that survived the damage in Haiti will be overwhelmed. If you are able, we encourage you to send donations to this local parish in Birmingham. No donation is too small. [Make donations] Payable to and in care of:   Saint Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church(Haiti Relief in the for line), 1910 12th Avenue South, Birmingham, Alabama 35205"

TV stuff, snow, & country roads
Taylor and “Grease” headed back into the snowy North last week and apparently he kept the Blackberry close as he tweeted of many things: Mon 25 Jan “SoHo. Meeting with agents about TV stuff,” which set off much speculation by fans as to what “TV stuff” meant. Other tweets ran the gamut from “Summertime In England” Van” to Vince’s preshow dinner. Today, a video of Taylor and Ace singing “Country Roads” in Huntington WVA on the AI Tour, 2006. His tweet: “For the people, by the people: "Country Roads"

BroadwayWorld.com~OPENING IN FEBRUARY, 2010-MUST-SEES:
"Fifth season American Idol winner Taylor Hicks and contestant Ace Young (who finished 7th) slick back their hair, and will energize the National Theatre stage, as they bring their own "Greased Lightning" to the Nation's capital. OK, the show is silly, and it's been produced a zillion times, ...but who cares? You can't beat a night out at the theatre that reminds us of the innocence and growing pains of the 50's.

"This tour is receiving raves all over the country, and I want to see why. Plus, I love the National Theatre! Everything looks great there, and in these tough times - couldn't we use a little 'Shakin' at the High School Hop'?" (dc.broadwayworld.com)

"From Idol to Angel" by Natalie Koss (www.ontaponline.com)
"Hicks is excited to return to Washington for Grease. 'I love the city,' he enthuses. 'I had great memories there. I performed at Christmas in Washington.' In addition to singing and writing, Hicks is adding acting to his growing list of talents. 'When I made a guest appearance on Idol last year Simon Cowell was pushing me to do movies,' says Hicks. 'He was interested in that path for me and I am too.'

A "must see" in the Capital

"Whomp at the Warfield," delivers tour magic
Taylor Hicks is bringing back the "whomp" of his very successful Modern Whomp Solo Tour in 2007. Recorded at the historic Warfield Theatre in San Francisco in May, 2007, is the hi-energy hi-def performance of Taylor and a "kick ass" back up band.

An extensive interview gives a look at the touring mindset of this platinum-recording artist. The 84-minute professionally produced DVD from Image Entertainment includes 16 tracks plus some interesting "tags" tucked into the R&B, rock and blues set list. Taylor performs two extra acoustic songs during the interview that are not seen anywhere else.
