Taylor Hicks
Angel in Briefing
"The Fall" was written by a young Taylor Hicks and was featured on his first album, "In Your Time" and is a stunning encore on the "Whomp at the Warfield" setlist. This is a pre-Idol performance in Nashville.

“What is without any doubt is that listening to this album you can tell Taylor Hicks never did need Paul,Randy or Simon’s validation as a musical entity. …The first album [In Your Time] included in this set was released at the peak of the 90’s soul/funk revival made popular through tribute albums, samples and alternative rock festivals and the sound that the album achieves should’ve easily made Hicks one of that areas shinning stars. From songs like “Soul Thing”,”Heart And Soul” to breezier fare such as “The Fall”,”In Your Time” and “Somehow” Taylor and his great band somehow manage to marry R&B,funk,Southern rock, jazz, latin and folk flavors so successfully it’s hard to descern one from the other and is some of the finest of this kind of music I’ve heard since the heyday of the Allmans and the Doobie Brothers in the 70’s. Because of the skeletal studios used to make it neither of this albums are not heavily produced but it’s very clear this guy was (and still is in my opinion) someone with the drive, musicality and star power to make it as his own entity.
"The newer album [Under the Radar] is a bit harder driving and slightly slicker with a funky workout on the classic “Tighten Up” really highliting Taylor’s interaction with the musicians playing with him. …“Georgia On My Mind” featuring Billy Earl McClelland really brings out the blues in the soul classic. Throughout this album Hicks’ writing, guitar as well as his vocal talents are highlighted and …it is more than worth the publics time to become acquainted with this music. Rating: 5 / 5" (Andre S. Washington Post cites “charmers-in-chief” in Grease...
“But before the musical's year-plus run ended in New York, it became a haven for "Idol" stars Taylor Hicks and Ace Young. They are the charmers-in-chief of this otherwise flat "Grease," with Young offering himself as an utterly winsome Danny and Hicks having a ball playing . . . ladies and gentlemen, Taylor Hicks!
"Actually, he plays the Teen Angel, but that role is basically a campy second-act cameo that allows some dreamy pop figure to croon "Beauty School Dropout." It lets Hicks be Hicks, but instead of facing judges and at-home voters, he's popping out of a giant ice cream cone over the local burger stand and offering sober counsel via corny serenade.
"He's too cute, he hams it up, and he sings smashingly; in other words, he's exactly as remembered and perfect for this fleeting, self-consciously star-dusted part.” Nelson Pressley-- The Washington Post

"Grease" celebrates 30something birthday...
"BROADWAY MAGAZINE—One of the most popular musicals in Broadway history was born on this day in 1972. The hit musical Grease debuted on February 14, 1972 at the Eden Theatre downtown, before swiftly moving to Broadway in June. The original production stayed in Broadway theaters for more than 8 years, playing 3388 performances, the record at that time. Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the power of Grease the musical shows no signs of letting up.
"The latest Broadway incarnation hit the road and is currently touring the US. Today, the show is in Washington DC with former American Idol stars Taylor Hicks and Ace Young having a ball as the “charmers-in-chief” according to the Washington Post. Grease remains the word. Happy Broadway Birthday!"
"Whomp at the Warfield," captures tour magic
Taylor Hicks is bringing back the "whomp" of his very successful Modern Whomp Solo Tour in 2007. Recorded at the historic Warfield Theatre in San Francisco in May, 2007, is the hi-energy hi-def performance of Taylor and a "kick ass" back up band.
